SkyGen Solar LLC is a developer, owner, and operator of large-scale
solar photovoltaic and solar thermal energy projects. SkyGen Solar’s
affiliate company Invenergy LLC has significant expertise in the
development, financing, construction, operations and long-term
management of power generation projects serving a wide range of clients
including utilities, load serving entities and industrials. SkyGen Solar
is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.
Solar photovoltaic (PV) power converts the sun’s energy into
electricity, and can be used anywhere with an accessible sun
resource. Large PV panels typically range in size from 200-300 watts
each, and have life cycles of over 20 years with little to no
maintenance. Recent and continuing advances in the solar PV market,
including interest from large world-wide corporations, are helping
to develop this technology into a prominent supply of energy.
Concentrated solar power (CSP) is a solar thermal technology
that concentrates sunlight onto a surface or liquid to create heat.
The heat can be used for a variety of applications, from as simple
as heating water for residential and light industrial applications,
to as large as running a steam turbine to generate electricity. In
the power generation market, three CSP technologies have been under
development which include solar troughs, towers, and dish systems.
Nine Solar Energy Generating Systems (SEGS) of the trough
technology, with a total capacity of 354MW, were installed in the
Mojave Desert between 1986-1991 and have been in successful
operation since. The tower and dish systems are still under testing
and development. With global interest increasingly focusing on
renewable energy technologies, SkyGen Solar’s mission is to become a
leader in the development of large-scale solar power generation.
